Tennessee Stands Says Gov. Bill Lee Won’t Do Enough to Help Memphis Businesses Suffering During COVID-19

Tennessee Stands spokesman Gary Humble on Sunday blasted Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee for not taking an aggressive enough stance to help struggling businesses in Memphis during COVID-19.

This, according to a press release that Tennessee Stands emailed Sunday.

Humble specifically cited Shelby County, which has a county board of health that operates with powers autonomous from the Tennessee Department of Health.

Humble said in the email that the Shelby County Health Department, “under the current emergency status, has executed on a seemly newfound authority to make policy and create civil penalties for the people of Memphis.”

“Some would call that an unconstitutional fourth branch of government. And I would agree with that sentiment,” Humble said.

Humble also said that “the Shelby Co BOH has gone so far recently as to require individuals dining in a restaurant to pull their masks up and down over their mouth and nose while taking bites of food.”

Humble referred to a radio interview that Lee gave to KWAM 990 in Memphis last week.

KWAM asked Lee what he can do to help Shelby County businesses “struggling under orders from the local board of health.”

“The question was asked a total of three times due to the Governor continuing to dodge the question,” Humble wrote.

“Finally, after the Governor confessed that he had no such power to provide help to these businesses, he exclaimed that the saving grace would be…….the vaccine. Yes, that’s right. What do struggling businesses need to survive government overreach? A vaccine. That is going to fix everything.”

Humble said he found “it striking that when it is time to institute a lockdown and close businesses, the Governor finds the absolute authority to do so. But when it comes to defending the liberties of those same businesses from tyranny, the Governor finds himself helpless.”

“This, ladies and gentlemen, is why we are fighting,” Humble said.

“It is why we are filing lawsuits. It is why we are working with legislators to make changes to the law that are in line with our constitution and work to defend individual liberty.”

As The Tennessee Star reported last month, members of Tennessee Stands plan to support a statewide bill to secure religious exemptions for vaccines.

Enough of the handouts! Open the businesses and schools and tell the bureaucrats – including Bill Lee – to get out of the way of our God-given (and constitutionally guaranteed) rights!

  2. Hey, Shelby County – go fight your own battles. You never want the state to tell you what to do, so fix it yourselves. Why should Lee intervene – it’s a local issue. Sue the BOH. Further, go cry in Steve Cohen’s beer, leave the rest of TN alone. Like Nashville, your entire economy centers around one or two blocks of bars, dependent on tourists coming and getting drunk, then puking in the streets. Rinse and repeat.

Elections have consequences. Don’t like the players? Stop voting them in. Duh!

  3. Stoptheovereach!

It all starts with the constitution and bill of rights ! If you know your laws you know that you have freedom and that the lockdowns are unconstitutional. If all who own businesses open the doors how can they arrest all at the same time and we’re would they keep you? If all stand up for freedoms then few won’t need to ask for help! I agree that leftist vote D but let’s be honest they don’t have that many voters , they lead you to believe they do .. that’s why they steal elections all across the board . The elections this year was overseen by the CCP ! Btw Lee can’t enforce face mask either be he does not make the laws ! I would also like all to investigate the vaccine which has lawsuits bc it will sterilize women ! It’s to the point of not trusting either side . There is no knight in shining armor coming to save us. Draw a line and stand for freedom, or hide behind your mask like a fool!

  4. Memphis Businesses? Why not anther bailout? Citizens still have enough for a night out at the hamburger stand. let them not order the fries and give the money in welfare to Businesses in the Democrat Hell of Memphis? How about the rest of the state?
They voted for the Democrats and they got the share the poverty for Social Justice, or their gimme gimme or well burn your business down but that the Democrat Party is all about.
Why don’t they go to the Chambers of Commerce who share ideals of the Democrats and beg or demand the money like all Democrats. just like our State Forests etc operated fr the Timber companies and financed by us. The Taxpayers of Tennessee represent a vast reserve that can be better used by the Democrats leisurely poor and ‘Small Businesses” on the Democrat plan. Cant afford property tax relief for Disabled Veterans but cannot afford all kids of Corporate and other welfare for Memphis and other Democrat Hells? Their election slogan Elect me and I will get you free stuff and money that the rest of Wealthy Tennessee owes you for Social Justice.

Memphis has a big problem but, it’s not Covid 19. Tell this liberal nut to stuff it, maybe the press elect Commander in Thief will buy votes and give money to Memphis, it’s never helped before. They have received more federal money than any county in Tennessee, it’s a mess today and will be tomorrow. Maybe we can send extra chromosome Commie Cooper to straighten out Memphis, he has certainly done a hell of job in Nashville.
